VIDEO: Suffolk Business Owners, Google Places is the secret sauce to a ton of leads

It's turning into Google Places week here at our offices. Yesterday, I gave you some serious proof from SEOmoz about the results you can achieve in Google SERPS with Google Places, after a serious eye-tracking experiment. Today, I turn into a bride for a few minutes to show you further proof of the effects you can achieve when you get this stuff right.

Below is a video featuring one of our clients, Extravorganza, a wedding chair cover company based in Ipswich. This video shows you the closest thing to a display ad you'll ever get on the good 'ol Big 'G'.

Google Places Is Vital For Local Business Owners

I know I've banged on about Google Places for what seems like forever, but it's too important to ignore. Finally, I've found something which shows you exactly why claiming your Google Places page could be the best thing you ever did to bring a consistent flow of high quality leads directly to your door.

Below is an image from a blog post, Eye-Tracking Google SERPS - A Tale Of Pizza from SEOmoz. The brighter the colour the more time was spent viewing this part of the page. Notice how atrong the colour is over the Local listings. Here is an excerpt from the findings:

"These results also suggest that the in-page Local/Places results are having a strong impact, even if they fall in the middle of the page. In these limited cases, they seemed to pull attention away from the top organic spots. If your query has a local flavor, you need to be aware of how your Google Places page is competing."

Google Alerts: A Massive Time Saver

google alerts

You don't have to spend all day surfing to find new content on the web. Instead, just set up a Google alert, or multiple alerts and let their friendly little Googlebot send you new information on competitors, industry news, clients and whatever else you want to keep track of.

How To Set Up Google Alerts

Head on over to the Google Alerts page, add a search term and preview the results. If all looks good and it's returning the results you want, just choose how often you want the alert sent, add your email and click create alert.

We love time saving tech and this is about as simple and effective as it gets. If you really want to go the extra mile, sign up for a Google Account, add Google Reader and have the alerts fed straight into your feed.

What do you use Google alerts for? Let us know below.
